I am currently in the market for a clothes hamper. Two actually, one for us and one for le bebe. I've been in the market for quite a while now, not because of a lack of hampers in this world, but because every single one I've seen is either completely hideous or wicker.
Side note: I don't do wicker. Never have. Can't stand the smell or the crinkly sound it makes. Gives me the chills just thinking about it.
But here, see for yourself.
I give you, The Hideous.
This one. (No picture, because they wanted to keep their precious Lester safe.)
There's this one, a little shout out to the 80's.
I can't even handle how awful this one is.
Here we have the "RV Clothes Bag". Name already signifies it's winning status.
And I know it's a team, but I can't think of anything better than the word "Trojans" written on my laundry basket.
And then we have all manner of wicker. Wicked, wicked, wicker.
I thought finding ice cube trays was hard (not that we need them anymore thanks to our new fridge, but for the record, I still haven't seen any) but this is far worse. The plastic laundry basket we currently use is wearing out it's welcome, and I know we'll need one to put all the adorable little clothes we have for this boy that will inevitably be pooped and spit up on.
It's a battle of wills between necessity and my A-Type, everything-must-be-perfect-and-beautiful-and-functional self.
Please send in reinforcements.

Oh my goodness Kim! IT'S A RECEPTICAL FOR DIRTY LAUNDRY!!! It doesn't have to be a focal point in the room. Put it in the closet if you can't stand to look at it for heavens sake! This is really not something you need to be spending your ever so precious, shrinking time on. You are just a riot with your ocd-ness. Yes, I just made that up.

I have the SAME problem with laundry hampers. I hate them. And wicker is the very worst thing ever, for anything. It should not even be allowed on the patio. Barf.
I suggest BedBath&Beyond for a laundry hamper. I feel they offer acceptable alternatives to wicker and/or sports references.
Good luck!

I understand your exasperation Rachel. :) If I could fit a laundry basket in the closet I would, but we don't have room. And yes, this is partial OCD, but mostly just more design geared. I like my things to reflect who I am. And I don't like wicker. :)

I, too, share your irritation for hamper shopping.
We needed a skinny one for our miniature master bathroom. I ended up getting a white (blends in with the wall), plastic, tall garbage container that has a lid you don't touch to open. Just toss the clothes on the one side of the top and they slide right down and the lid goes back into place. It's really convenient for carrying to the W/D because it's not bulky.
Do show us what you end up finding (I don't have much hope for you, unfortunately).
:)

KImba I hate to say it but I think you are fighting a losing battle. Ours is a smaller laundry basket that I have to transport downstairs at least 5 times a week. It is hidden but that is going to be changing soon with the near soon addition of my new dresser. When we moved into this house Ryan asked me if I wanted him to make me a laundry shoot. Even though the idea of my laundry going down a shoot right into the laundry room sounds appealing, I would rather go the wicker route vs. my house being torn up. I will be looking to you for inspiration.
*Shaking my head*
holy crap this is a lot of worry for a stinking dirty clothes holder.

Have you checked out Marshalls or TJ Maxx? It took me months to finally find a nice one, but I'm thrilled with the one I got at TJ Maxx. It looks like something from Pottery Barn or Crate and Barrel, with a nice dark wood stain.
