    The Thing, and, My Denial

During the Thanksgiving weekend my two sisters took it upon themselves to take the mutt for a walk.

Speaking of the mutt, yes, he's still alive. He is currently being neglected by me (though let's face it - this was already in full force) and is absolutely beside himself with excitement every single time Caleb comes home from work. The whining starts the second Caleb pulls up to the house, and continues until Caleb finally concedes and either lets him inside or goes outside to throw the frisbee. If Caleb takes a long time to acknowledge him, he makes himself heard by barking quite manically. I'm sure the neighbors love it.

    Oh. And then there's this.

Remember my dilemma? My frantic attempt to find a place for the dog to stay while we went home for Christmas? And then how I found a place and had him evaluated and such? Remember that?

We just decided, due to new family developments, that we're going to need to stay an extra week this Christmas. This is great news, my family and friends will love it (as do I) but um...it means we can't afford to board the dog. It's just too long, too much money.

    We have to bring him.

And I'm sort of in denial / mourning. I don't even want to think about it.

    Anyway.

That's not what I was going to post about.

I was going to show you this little guy, who was hiding under my mom's shoes that were on my front porch waiting to be cleaned because she'd gone on a walk earlier and had stepped on a pile of dog poop. Liz found him when she picked up the shoes to wear on the walk.

I haven't a clue as to what he is. A salamander? He looked like he'd been skinned.

Whatever he is, he apparently likes dog poop. Which is enough information for me. Didn't stop Liz, however...

Does this mean you're getting a mini-van? Yikes. Good luck with that battle.

And ew. Licking poop-loving salamander things is kinda gross.

    Is that...a NEWT?

Bring Bear down and we'll take care of him! Oliver thinks hes a bigger dog and plays like one! Seriously, Adam would love it and it'd give me more good wife brownie points :) Good luck with the drive though!

Nice Liz! She would rock Andrew Zimmerman's world (you know the guy on Bizare Foods).
Kim, Rosie will need someone to play with during the holidays and I am pretty sure that Bear would be able to keep up with her! Let me know your schedule and I am sure we can work something out.

We are just down the street from your parents, Kim, so bring "the mutt" down here and let him play with our lab. They would love it.

Also, your description of when Caleb comes home as well as your personal neglect and inner dislike of the mutt sound all too famiiar to me! Deacon (our dog) literally freaks out when Mark gets home. The whining, barking, etc. are becoming more frequent lately since it has gotten cold. Gee, can't wait until the snow comes...he is NOT coming inside.

that thing (or salamander as we call it)was really wierd. liz didnt really lick it she was just pretending to. when we found it we thought it was dead. but it wasnt.

It's a newt! I actually had two of those as pets when I was like 12, but mine were black. They promtly died when I didn't know what to feed them and threw random things into the bowl with them. Hey! I should have tried feeding them poop! Well, now I know.
